Learn to Surf Victoria

The Victorian Great Ocean Road is often looked at as the home and centre of surfing in Australia. It is the site of the longest running surf contest in the world, The Bells Beach Pro, and the starting point of many of the worlds largest surf brands. Being able to go to the beach and surf a wave is what many look at as the Australian way of life.

Go Ride A Wave has been on the beach and teaching surfing since 1987. Established in Anglesea it has now spread to offer surf lessons and surf hire across the Victorian coast from Breamlea, Ocean Grove, Torquay, Anglesea, Lorne and Wye River.

Being Australia’s longest running and favourite surf school has enabled us the opportunity to teach surf activities to many for the first time and to see the look of pure joy when you see someone catch that first wave.

Why Visit the Great Ocean

The Great Ocean Road is an Australian National Heritage listed 243-kilometre stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Allansford. Built by returned soldiers between 1919 and 1932 and dedicated to soldiers killed during World War I, the road is the world’s largest war memorial.

Begin your trip in Torquay and pop into the bustling seaside towns of Lorne, Anglesea and Apollo Bay. Relax on sandy beaches, hit the waves on surf boards or in kayaks, and hike through pristine rainforest in the nearby Otway Ranges. Discover the growing foodie scene at restaurants, vineyards and local cafes, and time your visit to coincide with one of the many arts and cultural events happening along the coast.

Stop off at one of the most visited stretches of the road at the 12 Apostles. See the rugged splendour of these huge rock stacks that rise majestically from the Southern Ocean. Take a helicopter ride to get a bird’s eye view of these famous natural wonders.

Get up close to native wildlife and take in iconic surf breaks, pristine rainforest and misty waterfalls along the spectacular Great Ocean Road. Get outdoors on bushwalking, surfing and mountain biking expeditions or take the cultural route through galleries, museums and heritage attractions.
