Lorne Learn to Surf
Lets Talk about Lorne
Located alongside Loutit Bay and backdropped by the Otway National Park, Lorne is the heart of the Great Ocean Road region. Thanks to its fresh sea air, white beaches, buzzing arts community and a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere, Lorne has been attracting eager holidaymakers for more than a century.
Teddy’s Lookout should be at the top of your list of things to do in Lorne. It is located at the end of George Street in Western Lorne and encapsulates one of the Great Ocean Road’s most stunning views.
Each year Lorne also hosts the Lorne Pier To Pub swim. The 1.2 km open water swim is the largest in the world. Over the new years eve period The Falls Festival takes place. The festival hosts contemporary music performances, dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other art forms.
After all is said and done the beach and surf truly show Lorne in it its finest form. Its protected waters and gentle waves make it the perfect place to learn to surf.
Our surf school specialises in daily beginner surf lessons. In addition, group and private lessons are available on request. We conduct all our surfing lessons in waist deep water, to keep it safe for beginners.
Lessons include a full length Quiksilver wetsuit and a soft beginner surfboard with 2 hours of quality instruction and fun. All that customers need to bring with them are bathers and a towel. We provide sunscreen and we lock personal items in our trailer while you are surfing.
Lorne learn to surf is run by Go Ride A Wave, Australia’s favourite surf school, established in 1987. We run 2 hour group lessons every day during the Dec/Jan School holidays (except Christmas and New Years days).
These public group lessons are also available on weekends up until Easter. Our main customers outside these times are school and corporate groups. They usually stay in Lorne at a school camp, camping ground, Cumberland Resort or Mantra Lorne..
It is one of the safest and most sheltered beaches in almost all conditions, along the Great Ocean Road.
Hot to Get There..
Outside of the Christmas/January school holidays we meet at the beach end of Grove Road in the Café on the beach side of the swimming pool.
The café is called HAH Lornebeach. The address is 81 Mountjoy Parade, Lorne 3232. If you are early grab a coffee or something to eat. Leon and Katie, HAH owners, offer our customers 10% discount.
Please meet here 10 mins before the start of the lesson.
Our meeting location from December 26th to January 31st is at the Lorne Main Beach Surf Club car park. Just look for our trailer on the grassed area. See photo below.
